Diocletian's palace:
This huge palace was the home of Diocletian and his military garrison. It forms about half of the old town of split. I would certainly recommend visiting at night when it is al lit up and less crowded then during the day.
The Riva:
On this promenade you have multiple restaurants and bars, however most of them are quite touristic. I really liked the promenade at night when there are little stands with food and it feels like a big party.
Marjan park:
Here you can find 3 viewing points where you have an overview off the whole city. In the summer months it can be extremely hot, so I would recommend taking the tour train. You can hop on at the statue of Gregory of Nin. (While you are there, rub his toe for good luck!) The train rides around the whole park and stops at the viewing point.
Bačvice beach:
On hot summer days this is one of the beaches where you can cool off. It is pretty close to the city center so it is only a short walk. The water is pretty shallow so you don't need to worry about a strong current.
The Cathedral of Split:
You can find the cathedral when going trough the silver gate and standing on Peristil ul. There you will also find Vestibul, an old imperial court that was used to enter the residential part of the palace.
People's Square:
On this piazza you can find lots of restaurants and bars. We really liked Bepa for breakfast/ brunch!
Marmontova ul.:
This is one of the street to be for shopping lovers. Here you can find the big stores like Zara, Guess, Masimo Duti etc. When you leave this street on the south side, you are back on the beautiful Riva.
Portofino:
This restaurant, located in the Diocletian palace, did not disappoint. The food was delicious and so were the drinks. You have a various menu and the portions are generous. What I liked the most was the atmosphere, you are sitting on an old square, and you feel connected to the history of Split (especially when 10 gladiators pass by ;-)).
